Donnie Wahlberg, who starred in "Boomtown," and Jon Avnet, who executive produced the show, have re-teamed with NBC for a cop-show pilot.

The duo are working with veteran "ER" writer-producer Jack Orman on the pilot, which would star Wahlberg as an honest police officer who goes undercover to investigate dirty cops. The Warner Bros. TV show has a script commitment from NBC, the Hollywood trade papers report.

Orman will write the pilot script and serve as an executive producer with Avnet, who's also set to direct. Wahlberg would get a producer credit.

Wahlberg played Detective Joel Stevens on the critically lauded "Boomtown," which after a decently rated first season took a tumble in its second and was quickly pulled. He also starred in HBO's "Band of Brothers" and had a key role in "The Sixth Sense." He's currently filming the feature drama "Annapolis" for Disney.

Avnet directed about a third of "Boomtown's" episodes while serving as an executive producer. His produced "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" and "Risky Business," among numerous other films, and has directed "Fried Green Tomatoes," "Up Close & Personal" and the NBC movie "Uprising."

Orman worked on "ER" for six seasons, earning Emmy nominations as part of the show's producing team from 1999-2001. He's currently an executive producer of CBS' "dr. vegas."
